Gossip Girl novels by Cecily von Ziegesar
Von Ziegesar's approach is fresh, although mean and petty comments dominate these teens' world. Characters are somewhat stereotypical: Sex seems easy, no one worries about protection or consequences, the alcohol flows like water, and the language is raw. Everything is at one's fingertips in Gossip Girl's world, and even cheap talk and the growing pains of high school don't change that. Fluffy reading, this is likely to have high appeal for older teens. See all Editorial Reviews.

As I continue to re-read the Gossip Girl series now as an adult first read in high school I do see the glaring problems with showing bulimia and not in a this person is suffering and needs help kind of way, but in a as long as she stays thin and beautiful everyone around her will pretend everything is all right kind of way.
Usually, the book is better, but in this case it wasn't. If I read the book first, I might have liked it more; however, since I watched the show first and enjoyed that so much, the book just didn't live up to my expectations. I did this backwards. They're fabulous. Blair is such a B I was worried that the books wouldn't have the same awesomness as the series, but I was pleasantly surprised.
I'll be reading the entire series now, thanks. Gossip Girl is my guilty pleasure. I loved reading about the naughty lives the Upper East Siders lead, and living vicariously through them. Totally a fun read, and I cannot wait for book 2 to arrive!

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Can't stop reading, but that's because I can't stop a series once I've started. I'm dedicated. Lol but I like it but at the same time I just don't feel like the characters are realistic and maybe that's because I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma and we don't have super duper rich heiresses running around, or I haven't met one. I bought this book thinking I would like it. It seems it's a lot easier to watch crap than it is to read crap.
It is so shallow with no depth at all. The parents in these books allow the children to get away with everything. Family breakfast include the kids ordering scotch or vodka. Each character is either doped up or drunk at Best friends turn on each with the slightest arguement. Everyone sleeps with everyone. I barely finished this book and I can't believe teens are reading it.
Why are these books so popular? Very short books I read a bunch of Gossip Girl books in high school in absolutely no order. They were all rentals from the library. I loved these books when I first read them and would like to collect the entire series to own. While I am collecting the series I am re-reading the books for the third time. I really enjoy diving back into a series I enjoyed so much growing up!
And Senior Spa Day promises to serve up further doses of scandal for New York's busiest private-school vixens. Snagging the latest Marc Jacobs bag or your best friend's boyfriend isn't pretty, but it's always hot.

Only time will tell how everyone will end up, but one thing's for sure: Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where the girls are dazzling, the guys are gorgeous, and the summer heat is the perfect excuse to throw a fabulous roof-deck pool party.
As if we need a reason! It's our last summer together before heading off to college, and things are sizzling -- no, it's not just the weather. Despite that steamy kiss on graduation night, Blair, Serena, and Nate have gone their separate ways though not for long. Blair is off to London with her English Lord boyfriend, Serena's about to become a movie star -- as if she wasn't a star already!
Back in New York, Dan and Vanessa are rekindling their love. Watch out, this summer is going to be hotter than ever. Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side where my friends and I live, and go to school, and play, and sleep - sometimes with each other.
We all live in huge apartments with our own bedrooms and bathrooms and phone lines. We're smart, we've inherited classic good looks, we have fantastic clothes, and we know how to party. Welcome to New York City's Upper East Side, where my friends and I get what we want, when we want, and who we want - even if they're already taken.
Forget the tearful goodbyes, people - let's get on with the fabulous farewell parties! We're almost off to college, and these last days are like a perpetual New Year's Eve ball drop - total kiss-who-you-can-now insanity. So will everyone break down and spill their secrets at the last goodbye? I'll be there to find out, and I certainly can't keep quiet. Blair, Serena, Nate, Dan, and Vanessa went off to live their lives.
Now they're coming home for the holidays. A lot can change in a few months but some things never do. It finally happened: We started over. No one knows who we've coveted, what we scored on the SATs,where our parents live, or when we became debaucherous. We've learned new things, made new friends, and maybe even met the loves of our lives.
We've changed. Or at least, some of us have.
