Paperback pages. Book Description Since its debut in August , Twitter Bootstrap, now simply Bootstrap, has become by far the most popular framework for empowering and enhancing frontend web design. By the end of this book you will be a more adept and efficient designer.
Table of Contents Chapter 1: Getting Started with Bootstrap. Chapter 2: Bootstrappin' Your Portfolio. This book not only guides you along your path of learning, the examples incorporate various bootstrap elements, and using them when they are needed.
This book isn't throwing out an html page with an example of a navbar but a full fledge example of a navbar with full content. Excellent Book and well worth the cost! Publisher Site: I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about learning to use the latest Bootstrap framework. The book would also make a good reference for a more experienced developer. What really impressed me was how Cochran introduces plugins, frameworks, and workflows outside the scope of Bootstrap in order to make life easier for the developer.
The author spends a chapter bringing the reader up to speed on the principles of LESS and how to best implement it into production.
These are each introduced to save the developer time by not having to reinvent something from scratch. Rather then complicate the project Cochran uses these plugins to simplify. The book chapters walk one through building a Bootstrap portfolio theme, Creating a Bootstrap business page, a Bootstrap E-commerce page, a single page Bootstrap site and a bonus chapter on converting a Bootstrap theme into a Wordpress template. The appendix covers optimizing a site for best download speeds, best practices for responsive images and adding touch control to a custom photo carousel.
The sample code is very well organized, each chapter has a start and a finish file to make sure the reader understands the code. In conclusion, I have read many books on coding and building websites. It is truly fun to read. All his example code works as expected and the table of contents and index are organized very well.
Yes I would recommend this book to anyone who has even the slightest interest in learning to use Bootstrap.

Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This book includes multiple projects with very good code and explanations on creating Bootstrap page layouts and customizing some major Bootstrap Components like Carousel, Navbar, and Jumbotron.
While learning about these components you begin to see the underpinnings of Bootstrap that is translatable to unmentioned Bootstrap Components. Equally, each project describes various aspects of how to utilize Bootstrap Responsive Design functionality to create pages that adjust dynamically for desktop, tablet and phone devices.
I had not used Less before this book and found this information very helpful - even for creating CSS not related to Bootstrap. I've use this book ALL the time. I find it most important when I'm writing a child theme for a Wordpress Theme that uses bootstrap. These themes typically just take the boilerplate bootstrap. As a result things like the nav bar collapsing doesn't work on the iPad Retina. I go looking for how that is styled in less and compiled to bootstrap.
It was only good for me when I started to need to understand how to fix bootstrap issues in other people's work It is a good book but I would have preferred it if the author had limited it to just working with layouts and bootstrap components rather than doing what he did which was to add in things that have nothing to do with Bootstrap.
NET developer and the book was clearly not aimed at that group.
Still, if you read through it and ignore the imposed development environment you can learn a good bit from the book. Paperback Verified Purchase. Seriously, want to add some padding to a footer element? If you are a professional designer who has worked extensively with Bootstrap and you are looking for help in getting into the guts of its LESS files then this book may be for you. But if you are looking for a cookbook for implementing some of the cool Bootstrap features that you've seen on the web, do NOT buy this book.
Bootstrap Site Blueprints I've been a huge fan of Bootstrap for awhile now, there are a few issues that I had while learning but it was pretty painless to get going and figure new things out as I went along.
The documentation is well received via the website for bootstrap but I felt it lacked more robust examples, sure the simple things are there. The robust examples in this book are well written and easy to follow along, I enjoyed the WordPress Theme section, it's widely used and something that every web developer needs to work with at some point in time.
This book not only guides you along your path of learning, the examples incorporate various bootstrap elements, and using them when they are needed. This book isn't throwing out an html page with an example of a navbar but a full fledge example of a navbar with full content. Excellent Book and well worth the cost!
