Although there were more dull scenes than the previous novel, the moments when I felt it was dragging were the moments directly preceding the most exciting twists. Peregrine's wards are even more dynamic when left to their own devices, and the reader is introduced to a variety of surprising new characters. Overall, a fascinating expansion of the world of the Peculiar, once again enhanced by Riggs' charming inclusion of fascinating photographs.
Not as strong or unique as the first book. Instead of enhancing the story by providing vintage photographs, the story was instead created around the photos themselves, which felt more like reaching than not. The plot was repetitious and had many dead ends. The book was crowded with many superfluous characters. The author would introduce a character that existed solely because he had a photograph about them, only to completely abandon them in the next chapter.

Luckily, the book finished rather quickly because so much of the novel was dedicated to photographs and white space. I had to drag myself through this one. Of the pages, nearly half are blank, section and chapter headings and copies of old photographs. Do authors get paid by the page? Thus, about pages long with LOTS of white space, but it felt much longer as we had long conversations to follow that led nowhere, repeated information, and extensive descriptions of characters in one chapter that led me to expect them to be important--but they disappear.
I bought Miss Peregrine for my grandson, but am not going to waste money on this.

The Second Novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children
This book is a real page turner! And I loved that the photos are just the right amount of creepy. A lot of stories are easy to predict but not this one, I keep on wanting to read more and screamed in frustration at the last page.
Please come sooner third installment of Ms. Peregrine's Peculiar Children. It was a great continuation of book 1 and this book leads into the third in a pretty cool way! I can't believe how it grabbed me again at the end … Show more Show less. This is part two of the Miss Perigrines story and although this genre isn't my usual picking, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the 3rd book of the series.
