In the second novel in Mercedes Lackey’s richly-conceived Dragon Jousters series, the dragonrider Vetch escapes to Alta, the subjugated land of his birth. Surely others have the same sort of experience? It’s a light and fun read, perfect as the weather turns warmer. I so love that every dragon has i I didn’t like this book as much as the first one but in general it was good and a few scenes were great.

Despite limited time in Valdemar, there were references in the first two Vows and Honor books to the Companions of Valdemar which laid early hints to their mercedea.
This is the way dragons should be – they may be wild, but they can also be tamed and form bonds of love.
Nothing particularly controvercial in this one – it’s all very above board. This book is really unusual mervedes that its climax doesn’t really feel to me like a climax. There, he hopes to teach his people to raise and train dragons-and build an army that will liberate his homeland.
Anyways, has the old Lackey flaws — badly needs an editor, rambling prose, weird passage of time, skipping events that seemed like they shouldn’t have been skipped. I would say that it’s because I’ve read a variety of Lackey’s books now and that her writing style and predictability is getting old, but that’s not it, because I love most of her Valdemar books.
